Ma nouvelle maman

I got an email from the lady who's doing all the housing stuff for us that said my host mom's name is Mme Tréhondart and that gave me her email address, so I did a little googling and found out that her name is Nicole and that she's an administrator at Le Centre de Sociologie des Organisations/Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, which is part of Sciences Po, which is a French university, from what I understand. Anyway, it seems academic, which probably means that she's very intelligent and such. Hopefully she lives in a nice neighborhood. I don't find out where that is until I get there (unless she tells me her address before then).

It's very late and I'm going to bed.

Bureaucracy is Stupid

I spent just over 2 hours at the French Consulate in San Francisco today trying (successfully) to get my visa, of which about 1 hour and 50 minutes were spent waiting. Honestly, I don't know what takes so long. All they need to do is print out a little sticker with my name and picture on it, and make sure that I'm not going to be a liability to the French Government while I'm over there (which I probably won't be, since they gave me a visa).

On another note, French visas are biometric, which means they took my fingerprints. Which also means that I am now in a database somewhere, and if I ever commit a crime in Europe, INTERPOL will know who I am, and an elite squadron of Jason Bourne-type assassins will be sent out to find and neutralize me. Or maybe they'll just make sure that I can't get another visa. I don't really know.

In other news, I got a pair of shoes and a trench coat today, to help battle the brutal winter that my frail Californian body is so unfamiliar with. Hopefully I won't freeze to death now.

29 days until I leave. It's creeping up fast.

I'm still in Menlo Park.

School hasn't even ended yet, but I'm just getting things ready for when I go. Hopefully this blog won't be too boring, because that means my life is boring. Anyway, it should be good. Following posts won't be as stupid as this, I promise.
